Detail Engineer

Mercury Z is currently seeking an experienced Detail Engineer to perform work. The Detail Engineer will create detailed installation documents, including installation instructions, cable running lists, rack elevation drawings and bills of material.  Receives site survey information from field teams, true-up plans with design engineers and provides deliverables to the installation and PM teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create detailed engineering for access networks and peripheral 3rd party touch points for Central Office, Hut and Cabinet environments
  • Interpret Layer 1-3 network diagrams and site survey information to determine placement of new equipment, parts required for installation, cables type and connections, power equipment needs, outside cabinet modifications and cooling requirements
  • Create installation package deliverables for each site, including detailed installation instructions, cable running lists, rack elevation drawings, bills of material, etc.
  • Provide completed installation packages to Project Managers and installation teams
  • Provide input/advice to design engineering and field teams as needed
  • Provide support to field installation and turn-up teams as networks are installed and turned-up to answer questions, modify plans, update documents, etc
  • Raise design issues and assist in determining solutions

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Working knowledge of the Calix and Adtran product portfolio or similar telecom equipment/technologies a plus
  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Top-notch written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Visio
  • Working knowledge of Ethernet, IP, FTTx, ATM, xDSL, T1/T3 or GR-303
  • Optical network design and implementation experience. Specifically, metro access (backhaul over CWDM/DWDM supporting LTE and commercial) and long haul DWDM, SONET/SDH, and IP/Ethernet over optical networks(10/100G).   Good knowledge of current architectures being deployed (metro Ethernet/LTE) and MPLS over DWDM.
  • Detail Engineering experience preparing installation packages for colo and central office applications. Assigned IPs, CLLIs, requested space and power, determined RR and fiber/cable terminations and cross-connects. Specified appropriate equipment in BOM.
  • Well versed in the preparation/ review of equipment and network specifications, SOWs, MOPs, performance specifications, engineering analysis and project related documents.  Experienced process troubleshooter.
  • Industry wide experience in the request and evaluation of vendor quotes, equipment ordering, schedule planning, budget tracking and procedures for final project acceptance.
  • Experience with OSS databases, including Telcordia Granite/Xng, Netcracker and AmDoc's Cramer network inventory and design tools. Equipment modeling, network builds and circuit design work. Validation of network inventory vs. audit and UAT.
  • Broad scope of project coordination experience working with diverse companies, outside contractors, vendors and internal departments both domestic and international.

Experience:

  • Central Office, remote Hut, CEV, and remote Cabinet telecom experience a must
  • Experience with and thorough understanding of telecom installation practices
  • 3+ years of detail engineering, with 4+ years of telecom experience required
